Senior's Home Visits
Coordinating visits with shelter animals to retirement residences and hospice homes in the Hastings & Prince Edward regions.
Through this pillar of the program, we aim to reduce loneliness for those living in retirement residences and hospice care through the companionship of a shelter pet. Residents get to have a short and sweet visit, and our shelter pets get to have a field trip!
Contact Kristi Ballenthin, Volunteer & Programs Supervisor, to inquire about booking an HSHPE visit to your hospice organization or retirement residence.

Pet Food Bank Delivery Service
HSHPE is growing the Pet Food Bank to include a delivery program to increase the program's accessibility to seniors in our community.
In addition to being able to access our Pet Food Bank onsite, seniors may request Pet Food Bank delivery services, to help keep pets and their humans together through hard times and preserve those precious human-animal bonds.
Volunteering
To help promote community engagement and volunteerism to seniors in our community, we offer a variety of volunteer roles and shifts here at the Humane Society.
Whether you'd like to socialize cats, walk dogs, help with some building maintenance, fold laundry, or help us with some administrative tasks, we are sure that we can find a volunteer role that will meet your needs and be fulfilling for you!

Seniors for Seniors Foster & Adoption
Our Seniors for Seniors Program aims to help older animals find new loving families by waiving the adoption fee for qualifying adults who adopt senior animals, or by supporting senior humans in starting a foster care journey with a senior pet.
Look for the Seniors for Seniors Eligible note in the description of the individual pet profiles to see which of our pets are eligible for this program.
All care supplies for foster caregivers are provided by the shelter.
All animals listed are spay/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
Social Gathering Opportunities
Stay tuned for senior's events hosted here at the Humane Society!
In the meantime, if you coordinate a senior's group or meeting and are interested in renting our Community Room, please consider reaching out to use our space. We will be offering a subsidized price for community room rentals through our Rescue Companionship Program.
