Humane Society Secures $25,000 in Funding for Rescue Companionship Program

Belleville, ON — Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward (HSHPE) announces that they have received a $25,000 grant from the Ontario government to fund their Rescue Companionship Program.

The funding comes through the Seniors Community Grants Program. Alongside several other community organizations, the Humane Society will utilize the funding to connect seniors in the community with opportunities for greater social inclusion, volunteerism, and community engagement. Plans for the HSHPE program include accessible volunteer opportunities for seniors, visits to senior's homes and hospice homes, a pet food delivery service through the pet food bank, opportunities for social engagement at the shelter, and bolstering the senior-for-senior foster and adoption program.

HSHPE welcomed Bay of Quinte MPP Tyler Allsopp and the three other grant recipient organizations (Prince Edward County's Purposeful Partnerships program, Mood Disorders Society of Canada, and Prince Edward County Public Library) on July 24th, 2026 for the funding announcement and a tour of the facility.
