Pets are important members of many households, and the rising cost of pet food can make it difficult for families facing financial challenges to provide proper care. Food insecurity is a known factor contributing to pet surrenders.

The Pet Food Bank, soft launched in June 2025 and located at the shelter, offers discreet support to families in need. Plans to expand the program through partnerships with regional food banks are underway. Availability of pet food depends on donations, and extra supplies are shared with families whenever possible.

This community initiative reflects the compassion at the heart of everything HSHPE does—supporting both ends of the leash by caring for pets and their people alike.
